Beat Allergens With These Cleaning Tips
If you or your family suffer from allergies, a clean house is crucial. Of course, basic cleaning is a standard practice that most people follow, but there are a few tips that you may not think of. The following suggestions can make a huge difference in your battle against allergens.
Get Rid of Dust
A no-brainer, right? Obviously dust is the first thing you think of when cleaning. But even this basic concept can be improved with a little know-how. For example, always dust with a damp rag, so the dust is captured. Dry cloths and feather dusters will just move the dust, allowing it to resettle elsewhere and potentially not get removed properly.
Vacuum
Make sure your vacuum has a HEPA filter to catch dust particles. If it doesn’t have one, those particles are being kicked back out into the air to be breathed in. If you have pets, it’s also important to vacuum more often to eliminate pet dander.
Wash Laundry In Hot Water
Items such as bedding, towels and other linens can be washed in hot water to remove dust particles and pet dander more thoroughly. Pillow cases on couch cushions also need to be washed frequently, which is something most people don’t think about.
Eliminate Mold And Mildew
Scrub shower walls and doors to remove mold, and wash shower curtains frequently to keep them clean and fresh.
Keep Windows And Doors Closed
Obviously, the more you keep doors and windows closed, they less pollen can enter your home. This helps to keep the air in your home cleaner, and prevents you and your family from breathing in those allergens.
